Midwest Neurotica
Dr. Ding is currently in the Washington, D.C. area for the first leg of The Ding/Beyonce holiday sojourn. I’m sitting in a hotel reminiscing about holidays past, and suddenly I was struck (repeatedly, about the head and shoulders) with the urge to google “cheesy holiday goodness.”
Lo and behold, I came across this fabulous site called Midwest Neurotica, and it’s written by a woman, Starxlr8, currently stuck in the D.C. area who longs for the comforts of her Midwestern roots!
Synchronicity or what, people?
Anywho, Dr. Ding has lived a large chunk of her life in the Midwest. It’s only as I’ve grown into my late thirties that I find myself waxing nostalgic for things like Chicago-style deep dish pizza, pork tenderloin sandwiches served at a lunch counter, free parking, big skies, cheap real estate, and the smell of roasted corn. Ah.
I don’t, however, miss having my eyelashes freeze, getting attacked by mosquitoes, and being forced to accept socks that match the turtleneck as “Oh, ya, that’s a real stylish look, there.”
